Hi there! When we’ve mentioned avoiding formats, we’re referring to memorized templates or set phrases that are used in the exact same way for every essay. Examiners can easily recognize these, and they don’t demonstrate your ability to write naturally in English, which can hurt your score.

Using a simple, natural word like “overall” to introduce your overview in Task 1 is perfectly fine and will not be penalized. The key is to make sure the rest of your response is unique and directly answers the specific question, rather than relying on memorized sentences.

Hi there! You can identify this by looking at the line graph for Petrol and Oil, which is the most dominant type of fossil fuel. You’ll see that it increases to 40 quadrillion units in 2008.
