Hi there. For short answer questions in the IELTS reading section, it’s important to follow the instructions exactly, including the word count (e.g., “no more than 3 words”). If your answer is correct but missing a preposition, you might lose points.

However, if your answer is two words and fits the meaning, it could still be accepted. But if a preposition is part of the correct answer, you should include it.

To be safe, it’s always best to follow the word count and include any necessary words like prepositions.
