Hi there, using the phrasal verb “save up” is perfectly acceptable in IELTS Writing. Phrasal verbs are part of natural English, and examiners do not penalize their use as long as they are appropriate to the context and written in a formal tone when required. Hi there. In IELTS Writing Task 2, you should aim to present ideas and explanations objectively, without sounding too opinionated or speculative. When you say something like “as people can’t save up due to lower salaries,” you’re explaining the reason behind a situation, but it’s not quite the same as providing a personal opinion on why it’s happening.
